- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1 1/2 lbs ground pork
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 1 tsp salt, to taste
- 1/2 tsp celery salt
- 1 tsp savory
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 3/4 cup water or beef broth
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 3 medium potatoes, cooked and mashed
Saute onions ; add crumbled meat and cook til just brown but not dry. Add spices and broth. Simmer about 2 hours covered.
When cooked, remove from heat and drain off fat only. Add mashed potatoes and mix well. Let mixture cool.
Prepare pastry for 2 crust pies. Line pie plates with pastry. Fill with cooked, cooled mixture. Top with pastry. Cut slits in top to allow steam out and crimp edges to seal.
Bake in hot oven 450º for 10 minutes then reduce heat to 350º and bake til crust is lightly brown.
