Real Homemade croutons


These are well worth the effort!  This recipe serves


  • 2 cups 1-1 1/2" cubes of French or Italian bread About 2 oz
  • 1 Tbs cooking oil Oil, olive, salad or cooking
  • 1 Tbs margarine or butter Butter, without salt
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced Garlic, raw
  • 1 tsp dried seasoning, crushed ( use Italian herbs, greek seasoning, herbes de provence, or any desired spice blend


Step 1

place bread cubes in bowl. In a large skillet heat oil and margarine/butter over medium-low heat. Add garlic and desired seasoning. Cook and stir 30 seconds. Drizzle over bread crumbs, tossing to coat well. Pour cubes into skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally over medium- low heat for 6-8 mins or until cubes are lightly brown and crisp. Remove from pan. drain on paper towels. Store tightly covered for up to 1 week.
