Mock Beef Wellington


An inexpensive alternative to the real thing. I used it for the family when all the boys arrive home starving.  This recipe serves 6


  • 1 lb lean ground beef Beef, ground, lean, (approximately 21% fat), raw
  • 1 large egg Egg, whole, raw, fresh
  • 1 finely chopped onion Onions, raw
  • ½ cup milk Milk, reduced fat, fluid, 2% milkfat, with added vitamin A
  • ½ cup dry bread crumbs Bread crumbs, dry, grated, plain
  • parsley flakes,Italian seasoning, garlic powder,salt and pepper to taste ( see tip)
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese Cheese, parmesan, grated
  • 1 small pkg sliced ham
  • 1 small pkg sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 1 pkg puff pastry


Step 1

Mix the first 7 ingredients and form into a 12 x14 rectangle on a piece of tin foil. Place ham and cheese slices over meat. Roll up lengthwise. Roll out pastry to be large enough to cover meat roll. Place meat on pastry and wrap to cover and seal completely around the edges. Chill several hours. Place on a greased edged cookie sheet. Bake in 450F oven for 20 minutes, lower temperature to 250F and bake 20-25 minutes more.
