Chocolate Chip Banana Cake


Bananas and chocolate make a wonderful combination. It will disappear quickly  This recipe serves


  • ½ cup butter or margarine Margarine-butter blend, 60% corn oil margarine and 40% butter
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar Sugars, granulated
  • 2 large eggs Egg, whole, raw, fresh
  • 1 ¼ cups mashed bananas
  • 1 tsp vanilla Vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, unbleached
  • 1 tsp baking soda Leavening agents, baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder Leavening agents, baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate
  • ½ tsp salt Salt, table
  • ¾ cup buttermilk or sour milk (see note) Creamy dressing, made with sour cream and/or buttermilk and oil, reduced calorie
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Chocolate chips, semisweet


Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar; add eggs, bananas and vanilla, mixing well. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with the buttermilk. Stir in chocolate chips. Pour batter into a well greased 9x13" cake pan. Bake in 350F oven for 40 to 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
