Cherry-nut Balls


 This recipe serves 12


  • 1/2 lb white shortening, room temp
  • 1/2 cup white sugar Sugars, granulated
  • 2 eggs, separated Egg, whole, raw, fresh
  • 2 1/4 cups flour Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, unbleached
  • 1 tsp baking powder Leavening agents, baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate
  • dash salt
  • nuts, finely chopped
  • maraschino cherries/jam, halved


Step 1

Cream shortening, add sugar& egg yolks. Beat well to dissolve sugar.stir in dry sifted ingredientsMouldinto balls, dip in egg whites, then nuts.Place on baking sheet & top with 1/2 cherry or indent and add teaspoon jamBake at 375F---15-20 mins
