USA Thanksgiving 2016
Every holiday brings another opportunity to experiment so what did we put on the menu this year? We read our magazines, newspapers and looks online and brought a couple of items into our test kitchen. Here is the lineup for this year.
Early Apps
Creton on Crackers
Stuffed Peppers
The Dinner – Finally!
Turkey (of course)
Turkey Gravy and Cranberry Sauce
Herbed Mashed Potatoes
Standard stuffing
Herbed Challah Stuffing (new)
Sweet Potato Casserole
Roasted Root Vegetable Salad with Grana Padano and Almonds (new)
Pumpkin-Caramel Tart with Toasted Hazelnut Crust (new)
Pumpkin Pie
Cranberry Lime Pie (tested at a company potluck)
Wine – Pinot Noir (Willakenzie)
For the new recipes most were keepers. The pies/tarts were both excellent. The hazelnut tart can add up in cost and labor because of the hazelnuts. Skinning hazelnuts is not a fun task. Our suggestion would be to substitute different nuts such as pecans. The cranberry-lime pie was excellent and if you are a key lime pie lover you have found another one to love. This colorful pie would also be well suited for those celebrating Christmas.
