Coastal Shape Sugar Cookies

Today we begin the 12 days of Holiday cookie trials where we will be looking for new varieties to add to our list of favorites. Our list for the trials is not final yet but the first will be a sugar cookie recipe we found in Coastal Living magazine. It was not the recipe that caught our attention as much as the unique cookie cutter shapes. Candy canes are fine but why not throw a palm tree in there. I mean if we were in Australia ……

The cookie cutters are from Ann Clark where they have been making cookie cutters in Vermont for years. I was amazed by the selection of cutters. If you are tired of the same old cookie cutouts give this site a look.

The first recipe will be coastal cutout cookies that have cream cheese as an ingredient. We made a batch today, but have yet to get to the icing. The recipe and icing creations will be shared tomorrow. The second recipe will be a bittersweet chocolate coconut square recipe selected by a family member from the Gourmet cookie book that recently arrived at bookstore near you. This recipe is from 1997. The book is interesting if not from an actual recipe collection but a cookie history from 1941-2009.

That is all for now. I have to get my creative thought together on how to dress up these coastal cookies.
