Tasty hand held meat pie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground round
  • 2 Tbs chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, mashed
  • 2 Tbs butter
  • 2 Tbs tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp curry powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • pinch pepper
  • 1/2 pound package phyllo dough (about 14 leaves)
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), melted

Method

Step 1

Saute meat, onion, and garlic in butter in a large skillet until meat loses pink colour and onions are soft. Stir in tomato paste, water, cinnamon, curry powder, salt and pepper. Cook uncovered until liquid evaporates. Transfer to medium bowl; cool.

Step 2

Remove phyllo from refrigerator (as in cheese-spinach appetizer puffs) Place one sheet on work surface; brush lightly with melted butter. Cut into 4 equal parts. Place 1 teaspoon meat filling in middle of the lower edge. Roll over once to enclose meat. Repeat with remaining 3 pieces. Continue in this manner using all the filling and remaining phyllo leaves.

Step 3

Bake in hot oven (400F) for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks. Follow recipe for freezing and reheating per cheese-spinach appetizer puffs.
