Savoury Cheddar Bread


 This recipe serves


  • 2 cups flour Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, unbleached
  • 4 tsp baking powder Leavening agents, baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate
  • 1 Tbs sugar Sugars, granulated
  • 1/2 tsp onion salt Onions, cooked, boiled, drained, with salt
  • 1/2 tsp crushed oregano Spices, oregano, ground
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard Spices, mustard dry
  • 1 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese Cheese, cheddar
  • 1 large egg, well beaten Egg, whole, raw, fresh
  • 1 cup milk Milk, reduced fat, fluid, 2% milkfat, with added vitamin A
  • 1 Tbs melted butter Butter, without salt


Step 1

Stir together in a bowl the flour, baking powder, sugar ,salt, oregano, mustard and cheese. Combine egg, milk, and butter. Add all at once to dry ingredients, stirring until just moistened.. Spread batter in greased 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch loaf pan. Bake in preheated 350F for 45 mins. Cool 10 mins on rack before removing from pan.
