Onion-Cheese Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 tbs vegetable oil (Or butter which is best)
  • ¾ cup finely chopped onions Onions, raw
  • ½ cup milk Milk, reduced fat, fluid, 2% milkfat, with added vitamin A
  • 1 large egg beaten Egg, whole, raw, fresh
  • 1½ cups biscuit mix Biscuits, plain or buttermilk, dry mix
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese Sauce, NESTLE, CHEF-MATE Sharp Cheddar Cheese Sauce, ready-to-serve
  • 1 tsp onion salt Onions, cooked, boiled, drained, with salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter Butter, without salt
  • 1 tbsp chopped chives or parsley leaves or poppy seeds
  • cooked thinly sliced onions for topping if desired
  • butter for serving

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400F. heat the oil in a small skillet over medium heat. add the onions and cook until tender, about 7 minutes. In a large bowl, add milk and egg to the biscuit mix, stirring just the mix is moistened. Fold in the onions and ½cup of the cheese. Spoon the dough into a greased 8" cake pan. Mix onion salt into melted butter and drizzle over the dough. Spread the bread with chives or parsley and bake 15 minutes. Remove from oven and top with remaining cheese and onions if using.. Return to oven and bake another 5 minutes or until cooked through and golden on the top. Cut the bread into wedges and serve warm with the butter.
