Imperial Butter Tart Squares


Similar to the Canadian Butter tarts  This recipe serves 25


  • 1½ cups flour Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, unbleached
  • 2 tbsp white sugar Sugars, granulated
  • ½ cup margarine Margarine, regular, hard, corn (hydrogenated and regular)
  • 2 large eggs Egg, whole, raw, fresh
  • 1½ cups lightly packed brown sugar Sugars, brown
  • ¼ cup melted margarine/butter
  • 1 tbsp vinegar Vinegar, white
  • 1 tsp flour Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, unbleached
  • 1 cup raisins Raisins, seedless


Step 1

combine flour and sugar in bowl. Cut in margarine until crumbly. Press into 9" pan. Bake 350F for 10 minutes. Cool 10 minutes. Beat eggs and brown sugar together in bowl until light and fluffy. Stir in remaining ingredients and pour over crust. bake at 350F for 20-25 minutes until just set and golden. Cool and cut into squares
