Cranberry-Orange Bread


Wonderful at Christmas but great all year round.  This recipe serves


  • 1 cup raw cranberries, cut in half Cranberries, raw
  • ¼ cup white sugar Sugars, granulated
  • 1¾ cups flour Wheat flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, unbleached
  • ¾ cup sugar Sugars, granulated
  • 1½ tsp Baking Powder Leavening agents, baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate
  • ½ tsp soda Leavening agents, baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt Salt, table
  • 2 tbsp shortening Shortening, household, lard and vegetable oil
  • grated rind of 1 oranges Oranges, raw, all commercial varieties
  • ¾ cup orange juice Orange juice, raw
  • 1 large eggs Egg, whole, raw, fresh


Step 1

Grease 3x8x5 pan. Prehheat oven 350F. Combine cranberries and ¼c sugar. Mix next 5 ingredients and cut in shortening. Make a hollow and add orange rind unbeaten egg. Break yolk and stir juice and egg together then slowly incorporating the dry ingredients just enough to blend. Fold in cranberries. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 60-65 minutes
