Aussie Sausage Rolls

These Aussie Sausage Rolls are a by no means low in calories but full of great flavor when compared to those frozen varieties. Very easy in preparation they serve well as an appetizer or a breakfast brunch item. A classic recipe from our collection that has been served to our guests and families over the years. Frozen puff pastry make this as simple as it can get.
RECIPE
1 1/4 lbs bulk sausage
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 tsp chives, snipped
2 tsp fresh basil, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp paprika, divided
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 17.3 oz package frozen puff pastry sheet, thawed
In a bowl, combine the sausage, onion, chives, basil, garlic, 3/4 tsp paprika, salt and pepper. Unfold pastry into a lightly floured surface. Roll each pastry sheet to an 13X 10.5 inch rectangle. Cut widthwise into 3-1/2 inch strips.
Spread 1/2 cup of sausage mixture down the center of each strip. Fold pastry over and press edges together to seal.
Cut each roll into six pieces. Place seam side down on a rack in a shallow baking pan. Sprinkle with remaining paprika.
Bake at 350F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Can be served warm or cold.
