The holidays came with cookbooks a plenty under the tree at this house and others in our family. There never seems to be an end of our desire to purchase or borrow cookbooks from the library. There are thousands of blogs out on the internet, but when you spend most of your time in front of a computer at work we still prefer to have a recipe with pictures in my hand for casual browsing. The positive of foodie websites and blogs like this one is that you actually do get pictures of the food which is not always the case with the large reference cookbooks.

The first books up for our trials at this house are the Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook: Breakfast, Brunch & Beyond from New York’s Favorite Neighborhood Restaurant and Chef at Home that my one brother has and that my mother bought me. Of course I live in the US so I do not get the Canadian Food Network and really don’t know this chef.

This week we focused on breakfast making pancakes from both books. The Clinton St pancakes where very good and the Chef at home version a nice change from the standard. We also tried the buttermilk biscuits from the Clinton St. cookbook with a minor change that were light and tender. Full reviews coming soon. For now, I need to get back to my 2010 baking wrap up with challenge to make the Bon Appetit Spiced Chocolate Torte wrapped in Chocolate ribbons that can be found in the Desserts cookbook.
