Equipment Review – Muffin Tins

It was time to replace our standard muffin tins. The existing muffin tins were functional but were looking, well let’s just say not very pretty and a little rusty. I guess if we were using muffin wraps or cups they would still work fine. However we typically bake our muffins with the mix straight into a greased pan. One more look at the pans and it was decided that we would need to search for something new. Rusty tins were not pleasing to the eye, although they might be providing an unexpected source of iron in our baking. When was the last time I had a tetanus shot?

We set out to do our research looking at various websites, magazine and books for reviews. That effort narrowed the choices down to the following three options:

Farberware Nonstick Bakeware 12-Cup Muffin Pan
Baker’s Secret Basics Nonstick 12-Cup Muffin Pan

A little more research on Amazon and elsewhere confirmed some complaints on the Bakers Secret getting rusty so that got eliminated. It then came down to the Farberware and Wilton. Both had good thickness and wide handles. The price went in favor of the Wilton and became our choice.

We were not disappointed. The muffins slide right out of the pan and cleanup has never been easier. The muffins were also cooked evenly unlike many cheaper pans. We highly recommend the Wilton Avanti Everglide Metal-Safe Non-Stick 12 Cup Muffin Pan.
